South Puget Sound Rotary raises money to support local and international community projects and provide scholarships. Each year at the auction, we select a specific need to designate a portion of our auction proceeds. Past beneficiaries include water well projects and Rotaplast on an international level and Safeplace, Family Support Center and the Hands on Children's Museum locally.
Some of the local service projects we have undertaken include working at the Left Foot Organics farm, participating in the United Way Day of Caring, assisting the "Out of the Woods" homeless shelter with repairs to their facilty, preparing and serving meals to Camp Quixote residents and our random acts of kindness.
Rotary places a high value on vocational performance, and South Puget Sound Rotary expresses its commitment to vocations by supporting students preparing to enter the business world. We send students to leadership training and we provide college and vocational training scholarships to graduating seniors from the Rainier, Tenino, Rochester and Oakville High Schools and New Market Skills Center. We also sponsor an Interact Club at Rainier High School.
Annually we host a high school age exchange student for the school year and sponsor a high school student to live abroad for the year. We have hosted students from France, Mexico, Italy, Slovakia, Poland and Spain, to name just a few.
We are a diverse, enthusiastic group of people that enjoy working together to help those needing assistance in our community and attacking thirst, hunger and disease in the larger world community. We believe in adding the fun element to all that we do.
